Ceremonies Filled with Lessons and Encouragement

Georgetown has more than 2,000 brand new alumni — including the first from the Doha, Qatar campus — after the university’s 210th commencement exercises.
Each of the university’s nine schools, plus the McDonough School of Business’ MBA program, held individual ceremonies to honor their graduates. The Washington campuses celebrated commencement weekend May 16-17, while the School of Foreign Service-Qatar held its inaugural graduation on May 9. Read Full Story.

MSB Graduates New Crop Of Business Leaders

Escaping the threat of raindrops on the lawn, graduating seniors from the McDonough School of Business and their family and friends gathered inside McDonough Arena for their morning commencement exercises.
Luis Alberto Moreno, president of the Inter-American Development Bank, addressed the graduating class, and left them with words to live by in the world of business.
Colleges Bestow Honors During Tropaia Ceremonies

Business professor Ilkka Ronkainen receives the Academic Council Professor of the Year Student Choice Award during Friday afternoon's MSB tropaia ceremony.
The word “tropaia” is ancient Greek and refers to a monument constructed to celebrate a military victory. Today, trophies awarded for excellence may draw close comparisons to the ancient structures. Each year students, faculty and some alumni are recognized for their academic excellence and outstanding achievement during the tropaia ceremonies. Read Full Story.
Student, Faculty Excellence honored at MSB Tropaia

Vy Hoang Uyen Le, who topped her graduating class with a 4.0 grade point average, gives her valedictorian address during the MSB Tropaia ceremony on Friday.
Graduating seniors and faculty were recognized for their outstanding achievements in academics, community service, teaching, and research at the 52nd Tropaia Exercises at the Georgetown McDonough School of Business on May 15.
Deputy Dean Ricardo Ernst presided over the ceremony, which was held at historic Gaston Hall.
Vy Hoang Uyen Le, who topped her graduating class with a 4.0 grade point average, was named valedictorian.

MSB Students Receive Their MBA Degrees

McDonough School of Business MBA students are among the first to receive their degrees during Commencement Weekend.
Of the more than 1,700 students who will be graduating during Commencement Weekend, members of the 2009 MBA graduating class were among the first to move their tassles to the other side during exercises held on Healy Lawn on May 15.
Former Foreign Minister of Spain Ana Palacio addressed the McDonough School of Business students at 11 a.m. [Watch video of Minister Palacio's remarks]
Palacio, who currently serves as senior vice president and as a member of the executive committee at AREVA, advised the class to pay attention to their responsibilities and the paths they should choose to take, both spiritually and professionally.

TIAA-CREF Chief Addresses International MBA Grads
May 12th, 2009, 9:03 amFifty-one students received their International Executive Master of Business Administration (IEMBA) degrees from the McDonough School of Business on April 25 in historic Gaston Hall. TIAA-CREF President and chief executive officer Roger Ferguson Jr. delivered the commencement address, urging students to learn lessons in personal responsibility from the economic downturn and look with optimism toward the future.
